A suspicious object, suspected to be an explosive device, was discovered in a dumpster on Hayes Street last night, resulting in the extended closure of an entire block of the residential street.

This morning, SFPD stated that they responded to a report of a suspicious device at 10:15pm last night. According to tipster Parker H., Hayes Street was closed off between Webster and Buchanan until after midnight.

"Easily a dozen cops and 3+ cruisers shut down Hayes between Buchanan and Webster around midnight," he wrote. "I asked them what was up, and one cop said he didn't know, they were just checking it out. Still, a cruiser and yellow tape across a road! That's nontrivial."

According to SFPD, the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) unit responded to the scene, and determined that the device was non-explosive. The block has since been reopened.
