Just For Hoodline Readers: Secret Specials At Maven And Mr. Tipple'sTasty beverages await.

Today we’re trying something new—with a twist! (Pun definitely intended.)

We’ve asked some of our favorite local shops, bars, and restaurants to come up with special offers and secret items for you, our avid Hoodline readers.

First up, Maven in the Lower Haight, and new Mid-Market jazz bar Mr. Tipple's Recording Studio—two dining and drinking hotspots from proprietor Jay Bordeleau.

Mr. Tipple’s Recording Studio (39 Fell St.)

With the Symphony, Opera, and SFJazz Center just steps away, Mr. Tipple’s is staking its claim as the newest neighborhood music destination. So when we asked Bordeleau to choose a neighborhood-inspired menu item, his thoughts turned to music—specifically, jazz.

Sazerac on draft

The Sazerac is “THE classic New Orleans jazz cocktail,” Bordeleau says. “Jazz and cocktails have so many deep roots in New Orleans, we had to pay tribute.”

You won’t find this classic cocktail, made with rye, absinthe, sugar and bitters, on Mr. Tipple’s menu—but rest assured, it’s just a quick pour away.

“Being able to offer the Sazerac on draft allows us to offer a great cocktail, at a neighborhood price,” Bordeleau says.

Order this off-menu special for just $8.

Patty Melt With Foie

The square patty melt is already a hit with customers at Mr. Tipple’s, but Hoodline readers can take it to the next level by adding some foie gras on top.

“This is what happens when you let fine-dining chefs have a few too many cocktails and start playing with bar food,” Bordeleau jokes.

Add foie to your meal for just $5 extra.

Maven (598 Haight St.)

The International Mistress

When Maven opened in the Lower Haight in December 2011, The International Mistress was one of its original offerings, and quickly became a classic with the Lower Haight crowd.

“Once you take the first sip, you’ll know why: This is such a wonderful, beguiling, but instantly pleasurable cocktail,” Bordeleau says.

The International Mistress features amaro, mezcal, orgeat, lemon, and grapefruit. While sadly the cocktail no longer graces Maven's menu, it's making a comeback for two weeks only for our readers.

You can throw back this throwback for $13.

To enjoy any (or all) of these special items, just swing by Mr. Tipple’s or Maven and tell ‘em Hoodline sent you. These off-menu items are available today through March 20th.

And stay tuned for more great discounts and secret selections at local destinations in the weeks ahead.
