According to the East Bay Regional Park District website, Lake Temescal is scheduled to reopen next month. Due to a toxic green blue algae bloom, the lake has been closed for the last two summers. The algae may have been more prominent due to the drought-warmer temperatures allow algae to grow thicker and faster according to the EPA. Hopefully some of the recent rainfall will enable the Park to reopen the lake next month as scheduled. The closure of the lake has not affected the other areas of the Temescal Regional Recreation Area, which have remained open.
