Mickey's Monkey Set to Close March 31st; Final Sale Kicks Off TomorrowPhoto: Diane Zimmer/Hoodline

After nearly 19 years in business, Mickey’s Monkey will be closing up shop, as we first reported in January, and its last day will be March 31st. Albion Power, a solar power installation firm currently located next door at 214 Pierce St., will be taking over the space.

The final sale kicks off tomorrow (March 12th). All knick-knacks, including art and lamps, will be 50 percent off; jewelry will be 25 percent off, and furniture will start at 10 percent off, with further discounts anticipated.

Longtime Mickey’s Monkey employee Donna Bautista says it necessary to clear out as much merchandise as quickly as possible, since Albion Power is anxious to take over the space. The solar company has outgrown its space at 214 Pierce, and plans to move into the Mickey’s Monkey spot without significant renovation as soon as possible.

There may, however, be some promising news on the horizon regarding the future of Mickey’s Monkey: Rumor has it the Lower Haight may not have seen the last of the business in some incarnation. Stay tuned for more updates later this spring.
