If you're mapping out weekend plans for this week and beyond, take note: the de Young Museum is launching the world premiere of a retrospective of famed fashion designer Oscar de la Renta this Saturday, March 12th.

The show, which will run through May 30th, is a showcase of de la Renta's work, spanning 50 years. The show includes over 130 pieces, archives from de la Renta's fashion house, and a mix of privately held and de la Renta family-owned fashions. The exhibition is curated by André Leon Talley, the former editor-at-large of American Vogue.

Oscar de la Renta began his career in the 1950s, working for Lanvin and Balmain before launching his own house. Over the years, his clients included everyone from Oprah Winfrey to Julia Roberts, and he dressed every first lady from Jacqueline Kennedy to Michelle Obama.

De la Renta was best known for his trademark satiny, voluminous, layered gowns and sleeves, which were bright, glitzy hallmarks of bygone cocktail parties. De la Renta died in 2014, at age 82.

Admission is free for members ($30 premium), and $30 for adults ($50 premium). The exhibition catalog is $75, and the opening reception for members will be held Friday, March 11th at 6:30pm.
