
While we don't report on every crime, we do our best to keep you informed of major crimes and safety concerns in the neighborhood. Here's a selection of crimes reported around the Tenderloin over the past three weeks. All details are pulled from the SFPD's daily crime recaps, unless otherwise noted.
Shooting
A man was shot twice at 4:45am on Feb. 25th at Hyde and O’Farrell. The victim, 34, was walking down the street when he came into contact with an unknown suspect, who shot him twice. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No arrest was made.
Stabbing
A 58-year-old man was stabbed at 1:30pm Feb. 20th on the 200 block of Leavenworth (between Turk and Eddy). The victim and the suspect were arguing when the suspect stabbed the victim in the arm. The suspect fled in an unknown direction and was not apprehended. The victim suffered a minor laceration to the arm and was transferred to the hospital.
Assault & Robbery
At about 3:15pm Feb. 25th, a 32-year-old man was attacked and robbed by five men at Eighth & Market. The victim fled as the suspects approached, but was chased and shoved to the ground. One suspect then grabbed the victim's backpack and they all fled. None of the suspects were apprehended.
A man was attacked with a knife and robbed at 2pm on Feb. 17th, at Eddy and Mason streets. The victim was approached from behind by two male suspects in their 20s, one of whom grabbed his backpack while the second punched him in the face and pulled out a knife. The second suspect then threatened the victim with the knife, while the first took his backpack and phone. Both suspects fled on foot and were not apprehended. The victim suffered a laceration on his ear.
In a similar incident at 10pm that same day, a man was robbed by seven men with a knife at Jones and O’Farrell. The victim, 28, was walking home when he saw the group. One suspect, a man age 17-20, approached and asked what he was doing. After the victim said he was walking home, the suspect lifted his shirt to show a folding knife, demanding the victim's property. The victim gave him a silver necklace and cash and all the suspects fled; none were arrested.
A 62-year-old woman was robbed of her purse, containing cash and a phone, at Golden Gate and Hyde around 3am Feb. 11th. The victim was walking when the suspect, a man age 20-25, approached from behind and grabbed her purse. A struggle ensued and the suspect motioned to assault the victim, but the victim let go and the suspect fled with her property. No arrest was made.
Two 19-year-old men were arrested around 5:45am Feb. 8th, after robbing a man at Eddy and Cyril Magnin streets. The male victim, 35, was approached from behind by both suspects. One grabbed the victim's laptop bag while the other punched him in the face. Responding officers located and arrested both suspects.
At 8:30pm Feb. 8th, a 30-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed while attempting to buy drugs on the 200 block of Golden Gate. She was hit in the face by the suspect, a man in his 40s, who then took her money and fled. No arrest was made.
Aggravated Assault
At 3:30am Feb. 17th, a man, 44, was hit over the head with a bottle at Leavenworth and Eddy streets. The victim was walking down Leavenworth when the 50-year-old male suspect hit him over the head with the weapon, knocking him to the ground. Officers nearby heard the altercation, located the victim and took the suspect into custody.
A 58-year-old man was attacked by a man and woman with a metal pipe on the 100 block of Taylor Street on Feb. 9th. The victim said his roommate was kicked out of the apartment building by their landlord. His roommate’s siblings, a 25-year-old man and 28-year-old woman, went to the apartment building to confront the landlord. When the victim tried to speak with the suspects, they both attacked him with a metal pipe. The victim was transferred to the hospital with a fractured elbow and a laceration and bruising to head. Both suspects fled and were not apprehended.
Robbery
A man, 23, was robbed at 10:35pm Feb. 22nd at Leavenworth and Eddy. The suspect, a man age 25-35, approached the victim and grabbed his phone. The victim then ran to Tenderloin Station to report the robbery. No arrest was made.
