After last week's summery temperatures, things are back to normal with overcast skies, though the weekend should be bright and sunny—perfect weather to check out Duboce Park's canine-friendly DogFest, plus a few of the events going on in the neighborhood.
Let's take a look at a few of the highlights for this week.
Tales of the City author Armistead Maupin joins the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus this Thursday and Friday at Davies Symphony Hall for Tales Of Our City: Our Lives, Our Heroes. The event promises to be "an evening full of stories and music about our home and its heroes, while revisiting this magical work of literature."
Peaches Christ is back at it again Saturday at the Castro Theatre, bringing us Spice Racks, a live show starring Katya, Honey Mahogany, Anna Phylactic and Cheddar Gorgeous. A showing of the cult-classic pop music spectacle Spice World will follow.
Head over to Strut on Monday evening for Trans Voices, the first in a performance series of celebrating transgender artists. The evening of poetry, music and comedy is hosted by spoken-word artist Kay Nilsson and writer/performer Julian Shendelman.

This coming Tuesday Monday marks the 110th anniversary of the great 1906 earthquake and fire that ravaged San Francisco. The day begins with a commemorative ceremony at Lotta's Fountain at 5:12am, marking the time the earthquake hit. This year's ceremony will be dedicated to Bill Del Monte, the earthquake's last survivor, who passed away earlier this year.
Afterwards, join the SFFD at the Golden Hydrant at 20th & Church as they give the fire hydrant a fresh coat of gold paint, in honor of its role in saving the Mission District from the rampaging fire.
Here's the full rundown of what's coming up this week and weekend in and around the neighborhood:
