For 13 years, On Mars Salon occupied the storefront at 210 Fillmore Street, right next door to Upper Playground. But after the salon shuttered in February, the space has stood empty—until last week. Now, a new business has (temporarily) taken its place: Tiempo Collections, which sells modern living and dining room furniture.

Owner Eric Liu tells us that his family has been in the furniture industry for decades, with design firm Tiempo Interiors occupying the bulk of the business. But now his sister is taking over the design arm—and Liu is turning his attention to direct-to-consumer furniture sales.

Liu's mother owns the building, and after On Mars' departure, she saw no real interest in the commercial space. So she offered it to him for a pop-up showroom. Tiempo will be leasing the space until the end of July, when the company moves to Bend, Oregon.

In the meantime, the neighborhood now has an option for inexpensive, modern furniture like sofas, dining room tables and chairs, sourced from both Asia and Europe. Tiempo Collections is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am-6pm, Saturdays from 11am-6pm, and Sundays from 11am-5:30pm.
