It's been a scorching week so far in SoMa, but as the weather cools down, the weekend's events are heating up. Here's what's worth checking out.

In honor of Earth Day this Friday, an Earth Day Film Festival will run all weekend long at Merchants of Reality (285 9th St.) The festivities kick off Thursday evening with an opening reception, featuring the filmmakers, artists, organizers and sponsors behind the event. Here are more details about the full festival pass—good for 38 film screenings, events, classes and workshops over four days—as well as information on purchasing tickets to individual screenings and events.

Reader Sean C. recommends snagging reservations at Folsom Street institution Rocco's Cafe this Friday or Saturday, because for the last time this season, the Italian restaurant is serving fresh crab cioppino. "This is one of the owner's most famous dishes," he said, noting that chef/owner Don Dial has been featured on 10 different television shows, including Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. "His version is stuffed full of crab, mussels, prawns and more & is absolutely fantastic." To taste for yourself, book a reservation on OpenTable before they sell out.

Hard French, the legendary monthly dance party at El Rio, is on the move, taking over SOMArts this Saturday night to raise funds for the not-for-profit community arts space. Expect a night of local DJs, a lounge, a beer garden, and food trucks to aid in your recovery. Plus, they'll have a 2am drag show and a visit by BAAAHS—the "Big A** Amazingly Awesome Homosexual Sheep" art car.
