After months of searching, the United States Postal Service has secured a new location in the Tenderloin for general delivery—an important service for residents lacking permanent addresses.
The new site is 391 Ellis St., a tiny storefront next to Cinnabar, at the base of Hotel Mentone. Augustine Ruiz, communications manager for USPS, says the agency has signed a lease and aims to open the site by April 30th, after a brief buildout.

The relocation of the P.O. boxes at 101 Hyde, the increasingly dilapidated neighborhood post office slated for redevelopment into an 85-unit residential building, is also underway beginning this Friday, April 22nd.
According to a notice sent to postal patrons, 101 Hyde will remain open from 9am-5pm Friday and 10:00 am-2pm Saturday to pick up last bits of mail at the service window. Come 8am this Monday, April 25th, all postboxes will exclusively be available at Fox Plaza.
