Event Spotlight: NoPa Block Party This SaturdayPhoto: NOPNA/Facebook

This Saturday, come out and join your neighbors for the North of the Panhandle Neighborhood Association (NOPNA)'s 15th annual block party on Lyon Street between Hayes and Grove.

The event will feature live music and a BBQ hosted by Parkside Market. For the kids, there will be face paint, chalk art, a spin-art bicycle, pedal-powered smoothies, and of course, a bounce house.

The annual neighborhood block party was started in 2002 by David Habash, the original owner of Parkside Market and the founding member of NOPNA. (In fact, Habash's dedication to the neighborhood was even recognized by Gavin Newsom, who proclaimed May 20th "North of the Panhandle Neighborhood Association Day" in his honor in 2006.) Today, his son, Khalil, carries on the tradition, and continues to host the block party's BBQ.

Looking to get involved? NOPNA is still looking for extra hands to help with the art station and smoothie booth and monitor the bouncy house. Email [email protected] to volunteer.
