Each week, we'll feature an especially interesting event in the neighborhood based on the event submissions we get, and what we hear about while we're out on the beat. If you want to be considered for next week, please submit your event here.
A fundraiser for kids in Panama is taking place at Fig & Thistle tomorrow night, with live music, a silent auction, and special drinks for those who stop in.
Give and Surf is a Panama-based non-profit that works with local communities to provide education opportunities for youth, as well as infrastructure for community spaces. The organization works with over 200 volunteers every year, and in the past five years, has built three schools, a library, cafeteria, playground, bathroom, and water catchment system that benefit Panamanian indigenous communities.
If this sounds like a cool mission you want to get behind, you're in luck. Fig & Thistle is hosting a silent auction from 5-6:30pm tomorrow (May 11th) featuring a ton of cool swag. Items listed will include items from Okiino Surf Leggings and Pearson Arrow Surf Shop, and gift certificate to surf hangout Devil's Teeth Baking Co. In keeping with Fig & Thistle's focus on wine, a case of bottles will also be donated, featuring wine by winemakers that love to surf—Scar of the Sea, Stirm, and Drew Family Cellars.
The evening's festivities start at 5pm, and a portion of all drink sales will be donated to the cause.
