"Oscar de la Renta: The Retrospective," the de Young Museum's exhibition, closed May 30.
De la Renta was a Dominican fashion designer born in Santo Domingo in 1932. His career, which started in the '50s in Spain when he had his first commission, spanned five decades. He died in 2014.
Over the years, he created pieces of art to be worn by both celebrities and dignitaries.
The wide array of beautiful and intricate fashion designs in the more than 130 ensembles on display at de Young made me not only want to dance, but I also wanted to jump into all the different time periods of the dresses.
My favorites were the Spanish-influenced dresses, with traces of Flamenco woven through them, as well as the Russian designs, where red and sparkles unite to bring elegance to the smooth flowing designs.
