Update, 11:15am: The Examiner reports that a resident called 911 around 10am to report that someone was breaking into their apartment, according to police. The suspect barricaded himself into a room when police arrived, and a shot was fired by the suspect, though it's unclear whether that shot struck the suspect, the Ex reports.

As of 12pm, police report that the standoff is ongoing:

Update, 2:30pm: Police report that the suspect is in custody. Reports indicate he may have run out of the building and been shot.

Update, 3pm: According to SFPD spokesperson Grace Gatpandan, at around 2:30pm, the suspect exited a window and went onto the roof of a neighboring building. He fell through a skylight into a hair salon, which, although buildings in the area had been evacuated, had people inside it.

Officers fired two flash grenades (non-lethal explosive devices used for purposes of disorientation), and then entered the building. A struggle between officers and the suspect ensued, with six officers and the suspect—and possibly bystanders inside the building—sustaining cuts and lacerations before the suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect and the injured police officers have been transported to the hospital, all with non-life-threatening injuries.

Gatpandan notes that this is still an active crime scene and onlookers should continue to avoid the area.
