With a full, diverse slate of community events on tap for the next few days, there are plenty of good reasons to stick close to the neighborhood this weekend.

Let's start with tonight.

First, Code Tenderloin is hosting another community gathering in support of its fundraising drive. This time, San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi will be in the house to share details about his office's collaboration with the organization to help residents "clean up" their records through the Clean Slate program.

Fresh off its biggest fundraiser of the year, the Hospitality House Community Arts Program is opening a new exhibition tonight featuring neighborhood artists Jo Jackson and Billy Crawford. 100 percent of the proceeds go to the artists. Here's the full schedule of exhibitions at the community gallery this season.

If you're out and about in Mid-Market tomorrow, keep your eyes peeled for the Blind & Proud Parade. Hundreds of LightHouse for the Blind participants and supporters are gathering at 11am at City Hall for speeches on their mission to "give people who are blind or have low vision the tools and community they need to live their lives as they desire." The group will then march down Market Street and cut the ribbon on its brand new headquarters.

Come Saturday, neighbors are taking to Turk Street between Mason and Taylor for a "Hoodgames from the Heart" block party. From 11am-4pm, expect music and dancing, arts and crafts, street games and more. The event is hosted by the Saint Francis Foundation and 10129 Foundation, sponsored by Group i (the team behind redevelopment plans for 950-974 Market), and proceeds are going to youth nonprofits in the neighborhood.

That same day, neighborhood veterans may want to stop by the Veterans Building for a unique art workshop. Hosted by the local group Combat Paper, participants will learn how to turn military uniforms into handmade paper. The Warrior Writers group will be on hand to help interested participants express their thoughts through creative writing. While there will only be supplies for 25 participants, all are welcome that day to visit the gallery's latest exhibition of prints by Justseeds Artists' Cooperative and the Iraq Veterans Against the War.
