Earlier this month, Hoodline reported that clothing store Entour would close, and its next-door neighbor at 16th and Market, Max Musclewould downsize into the smaller space. We have now learned that both businesses will be staying put.

SF Planning's Gina Simi confirmed to Hoodline that if Max Muscle had decided to move next door, they would have been required to apply for a conditional use authorization, due to formula retail restrictions. While Max Muscle has been at its current location for more than two decades, it now has 26 locations across the Bay Area, Sacramento and the Central Valley, more than double the maximum of 11 allowed under the formula retail law.

Max Muscle franchisee Jason Mayol confirmed to us that he plans to stay in his current location, but neither he nor property owner Larry Bennett would confirm that the conditional use application was a determining factor in that decision.

Next door, men's clothing store Entour has decided to remain open, after learning that Max Muscle was not going to move. Fans of their signature 'Sunday Funday' tank tops can rest assured, as they've just signed a new five-year lease.

Owner Darren Cadiz has also taken on a business partner, Jeffrey Wang. Wang, who currently works at the store, will will be operating the business day-to-day as Cadiz focuses on his full-time day job as a paralegal.

Wang tells us Entour will be making some changes in order to stay competitive, including creating an online store to help increase sales.
