The Rec & Park Capital Committee is poised to vote this afternoon on whether to support spending $10 million to purchase roughly half an acre in Western SoMa to construct a new park.
According to the Examiner, the department has struck a deal with Ares Commercial Properties to purchase five adjacent properties on 11th Street, Minna and Natoma (145 11th St., 147 11th St., 165 11th St., 973 Minna St. and 964 Natoma St.). Once the existing buildings are razed, the lot could accommodate one active use, such as a playground or sports court, and a passive green space, the department told the paper.

However, even if the legislation is approved by both the Rec & Park Capital Committee and Commission this year, construction wouldn't begin immediately. Existing retail tenants would be given until 2024 to relocate.
