Event Spotlight: Riptide And Matty's Bar Hold Community Meetings This WeekThe Riptide (Photo: Fiona Lee/Hoodline)

This week, two bars on Taraval between 45th and 47th avenues—the Riptide and Matty's Bar—will be holding community meetings to speak with Outer Sunset neighbors and address any concerns.

After receiving an entertainment permit from the Planning Commission, the Riptide's next step in reopening after a catastrophic fire last year is getting a permit from the Entertainment Commission. And Tonight, the neighborhood institution is holding a community meeting to answer questions from the neighborhood.

"As neighbors, you have probably seen the notices on our building for both our Planning Commission and the Entertainment Commission hearing for the last couple of months," the staff wrote in a letter posted on the exterior of the Riptide, "but we wanted a chance to speak with neighbors in person."

And on Wednesday night, Sunset resident Matt Lopez, the owner of the upcoming Matty's Bar at 3608 Taraval St, will also be holding a community meeting to meet the neighbors. Next to Bashful Bull Too and across from the Riptide, the new bar will focus on specialty cocktails.

"I would like to invite all of you to come learn about our new bar," Lopez writes in a NextDoor message. "I look forward to seeing everyone there and sharing our idea."

While this commercial stretch of Outer Taraval has long been dormant, things will change over the next year with the revival of the Riptide and the opening of Matty's Bar. Two coffee shops—Streamline and Andytownare also slated to open later this year. The Great Highway Market —also damaged in the fire that gutted the Riptide—is also currently under construction.

The Riptide's community meeting is tonight at 6:30pm, and the one for Matty's Bar is on Wednesday night at the same time. Both meetings will take place at Congregation B'Nai Emunah at 3595 Taraval St. (and 46th Avenue).
