Sunshine, blue skies and lots of local art, free live music and poke are on the menu this coming weekend.
Kicking of the weekend early is Third Thursday in Yerba Buena. Stop by one of the neighborhood's many museums or cultural institutions to soak up some knowledge between 5 and 8pm, and you'll score a sticker that gets you discounts for the night at nearby bars and restaurants, including B Restaurant, Thirsty Bear and Novela.
Some of the newest exhibitions you'll be able to choose between:
- 'Stanley Kubrick: The Exhibition' at the Contemporary Jewish Museum
- 'The Grace Jones Project' and 'Dandy Lion: (Re)Articulating Black Masculine Identity' at the Museum of the African Diaspora—which is offering free admission to both exhibits as well as a film screening
-
'The Earth Is My Body / My Body Is the Earth' at Yerba Buena Center of the Arts—which is also offering free admission to installation and performance
While you're at it, don't forget to make a pit stop at Second and Natoma for a peek at the new parking lot art show across from the Adolph Gasser photography shop.
If you prefer to enjoy local art on the run, with competitors hot on your tail, you might want to check out Pogo Events' SoMa Street Art Scavenger Hunt on Sunday. Teams of two to four, armed with smartphones and matching costumes, will race around the neighborhood, exploring its many hidden, yet public, works of art.
You can also spend your weekend feasting your heart out on the local "delicacy of the hour": poke bowls. PokeCon is bringing a host of Bay Area poke vendors and other Hawaiian delights to the food truck park both Saturday and Sunday. But act fast: the $5 tickets are selling out, and currently only available for 11am-5pm Sunday.
