A 35-year-old male cyclist was injured in a collision with a parked minivan in Golden Gate Park at Marx Meadow on the 1200 block of John F. Kennedy Boulevard. The incident occurred yesterday around 12:35pm.
A tipster sent us this account:
There was a bad bike collision on JFK at Marx Meadow today around one. Seems a guy on a fixed gear either ran into the back of a parked car or the car probably stopped hard and the cyclist couldn't stop ... Think the guy is hurt pretty bad - went through the back window of a mini van!
According to the SFPD's report, while the cyclist sustained injuries, he was in stable condition and transported to San Francisco General Hospital. SFPD confirms that the vehicle was parked when the cyclist "crashed head first through the back window."
The incident comes after another cyclist died after being struck in a hit-and-run in June on John F. Kennedy Boulevard in the park. Just yesterday, Mayor Ed Lee issued a Safe Streets directive for "near-term safety improvements" on John F. Kennedy Boulevard in response to the deaths of two cyclists in two separate incidents on the same day.
