A slew of fests and festivals collide over the next few days, giving you the chance to get outdoors and support some local worthy causes.

The weekend kicks off with the 4th annual Salesian Beer & Food Fest (680 Filbert St.) starting at 6pm Friday. Tickets, which can be purchased online, means unlimited tastings from the beer, wine and food sponsors, and all proceeds go to the Salesian Boys' and Girls' Club.

At 9:30am Saturday, the Festival of the Sea returns to Hyde Street Pier. This year the festival celebrates the National Park Service's 100th birthday as well as the 1895 National Historic Landmark schooner C.A. Thayer. There will be plenty of music, demonstrations, kids activities and other free activities along the waterfront all day long to help commemorate SF's maritime heritage.

As long as milestones are being celebrated, don't forget that the San Francisco Fire & Police Reserve are celebrating their 75th Anniversary with a Volunteer Day at Washington Square Park on Tuesday. The event, which coincides with Lillie Hitchcock Coit’s birthday, will include antique fire-fighting apparatus displays, police and sheriff displays, ALERT/NERT overviews and birthday cake. It all kicks off at 3pm.

Elsewhere in the news there's been plenty of coverage of the tree limb that fell and critically injured a woman in Washington Square Park last week, KQED swung by the recently-revamped Tamarind Hall for a bite (1268 Grant Ave.), and if you have $5,100 burning a hole in your pocket for rent, SF Curbed found you a place near the Vallejo steps

Now, on to our editor's picks for the days ahead. For a full list of what's going on around town this weekend and beyond, don't forget to check our hoodline.com/events.
