Outer Sunset Week: Outside Lands, ZOOlympics, Home Match Launch, More

If you think this summer has been colder than usual, you're right. The Chronicle recently reported that this July has been one of the coldest in years, especially after one of the warmest winters on record. And we've definitely been feeling the cold in the Outer Sunset as Karl the Fog has eaten our district.

This weekend, put on a sweater for the chilly August weather and, if you've got tickets, head out for the fantastic line-up of outdoor events taking place around our foggy neighborhood. Outside Lands launches in grand style today with three days of music; for those living near the festival, check out our area resident’s guide to surviving the crowds.

If you aren’t at Outside Lands, the Stern Grove Festival continues with iconic Philly Soul group The O’Jays. The San Francisco Zoo also has a fun event to kick off the Rio Olympics with their version: the ZOOlympics. Participants can see how they would stack up against competitors from the natural world.

Finally, consider participating in the community this week. The good folks at Sunset Elementary are looking for volunteers to help with painting a mural at the school all week. This Wednesday also sees the launch of Home Match, a new home-sharing program meant to bring together folks with extra rooms in their home and low-income residents. If you’re interested in the program, the launch event is being held at South Sunset Senior Center.
