Wondering what all the hullabaloo on the Bay Bridge was about last night?
The Chronicle reports that SFPD spent the night chasing an assault suspect who walked onto the bridge's lower deck around 11pm yesterday. They spent the night chasing him, shutting down three of five lanes of eastbound traffic until 5:30am this morning.
According to police, the suspect—a 22 year-old man—allegedly tackled, restrained and bit a 21-year-old woman around 10:40pm last night at the Transbay Terminal. After witnesses pulled him off the victim, he fled on foot and later turned up on the bridge.
Throughout the six-and-half hour ordeal, the man—who was threatening to kill himself, police say—jogged across the bridge, dodged traffic and an attempt to restrain him with a taser, then jumped over the railing and perched on a beam.
Thankfully for morning commuters, the suspect surrendered, and traffic lanes reopened before rush hour began this morning.
