This week, an Irish heritage celebration brings music, singing and dancing, a massive book giveaway is expected to draw hundreds to a single backyard, and serenity-seekers will Om their way through a stress-busting gathering certain to make Golden Gate Park even more mellow.

Saturday, 11am: Peace In the Park 2016
Stress is a fact of life, which means it rarely receives the attention it deserves. To promote mindfulness, the Peace in the Park festival was created to bring attention to damaging levels of stress that can easily degrade our quality of life.
From 11am to 6pm, the festival will bring serenity-inducing activities like meditation, tai chi, yoga and kids' programs and seminars, all free of charge. Attendees will be treated to live music, theatrical performances, and vegetarian cuisine from Amma's Kitchen and Alicia's Tamales.
Saturday-Sunday: Sometimes-Annual Backyard Book Blast
The house at the corner of 6th Avenue & Irvin,g known for its displays of public art, will open its backyard for the Sometimes-Annual Backyard Book Blast for both days this weekend. Passionate readers are encouraged to stop by to replenish their libraries, and meet a few neighbors along the way.
For weeks, organizer Barbara has worked with volunteers to gather and sort thousands of titles for this weekend's giveaway. Bibliophiles are encouraged to stop by after noon to browse the pop-up library; to manage the crowds, Barbara will admit people in groups of 30.
