New Panhandle Basketball Courts Debut TodayPhoto: Rose Garrett/Hoodline

We mentioned last month that the Panhandle basketball courts were getting a facelift, thanks to a grant funded by the Good Tidings Foundation and the Warriors Community Foundation. Today, the fences come down, and the courts reopen.

As you can see in the photo, all the hoops and backboards have been replaced. The court has also been resurfaced and painted a bright blue edged with yellow, and all the lines have been touched up. The old benches remain, but those are slated for replacement later this year as part of another city project.

There'll be a ceremony today at 11:30am to mark the event, during which members of the Warriors organization and Good Tidings Foundation will make remarks. After that, members of the Warriors Basketball Camp staff will lead 100 youth, aged 7-13, in a basketball clinic.

There will also be a balloon artist, a bounce house, a face-painting station, and ice cream, according to Park and Rec, so if you're brave enough to face Fogtember, grab a scarf and join the festivities.
