More details have emerged on Club Deluxe's impending change of ownership. Back in April we told you that the beloved jazz staple in the Upper Haight was coming under new management after the passing of Jay Johnson, the club's long time owner and founder.
This week, after 17 months of transferring licenses, incoming owners Sarah Wilde and Chris Pankow circulated a letter to neighbors and merchants notifying them of the change in ownership and asking for their support in transferring the final piece: the music license.
Wilde was a long-time employee of Johnson's, and describes herself as his right-hand man. Pankow is the owner of a property and development company. Together, they plan to keep the formula mostly the same: live music seven nights a week from 6pm to midnight, free Sunday through Thursday, and with a $5 cover Friday and Saturday that goes to the bands.
While most of the ownership transfer is complete, the live music license is still forthcoming. The letter asks neighbors to add signatures of support to the new owners to continue having live music in the venue.
To this end, they will be holding a public open house at Club Deluxe, this Sunday, October 2, from 12-1PM. They urge you to come out and bring any questions or concerns.
And as always, we'll keep you informed as things progress.
