Happy Wednesday! Thanksgiving is just eight days away, but until the big day arrives, here's a few events going on around the Castro you may want to check out.
Sound off tonight at Smack Dab Open Mic, featuring Natasha Dennerstein. Bring your song, poem or prose—you've got five minutes to share it with the audience.
On Thursday night, meet LGBTQ activist Richard Lusimbo at the GLBT History Museum. Lusimbo will speak about the terror that's been unleashed against the LGBTQ community in Uganda, and the court case against anti-gay activist pastor Scott Lively, who's being sued by a non-profit LGBT advocacy organization in Uganda over his work to strip gay and trans Ugandans of their rights.
Come Friday, throw on your favorite onesie and get cozy at Lookout's Winter Onesie Party. There will be a best onesie runway contest at midnight, and all proceeds benefit San Francisco Suicide Prevention.
Looking to get more involved in the community in the wake of the election? On Saturday afternoon, you connect with over 300 San Francisco LGBTQ groups at OurTownSF Live! at the Eureka Valley Recreation Center. Hosted by Sister Roma, Tom Temprano and Kit Tapata, this free event will have representatives from nonprofits, arts and athletic groups, along with live entertainment.
It's also likely that this weekend could bring more rallies and protests to the Castro, which has seen many demonstrations since Election Day. Hoodline will keep you posted on any planned demonstrations in the neighborhood.
Finally, on Monday night, the Roxie Theater says goodbye to the recently departed Leonard Cohen with a screening of the 2006 film Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man. The all-star tribute to Cohen, shot in Sydney, features Rufus & Martha Wainwright, U2, Jarvis Cocker and Nick Cave.
