In the wake of Donald Trump's election to the presidency, graffiti referencing Hitler and Nazi symbols has popped up all over the country, from dormitory doors in New York City to store windows in South Philadelphia. Yesterday, one was spotted in Hayes Valley: an electronic road sign on Fell Street between Gough and Franklin that had been hacked to read "Heil Trump!!"

It's unclear who's responsible for the sign, or whether they intend it to be satire or a prank, like the Dolores Heights man who decided to fly a Nazi flag from his home the day after the election.

But with road signs around San Francisco regularly subject to hacking (most notably from a person or persons obsessed with "Yogabut,") there's a chance it could be the real deal.

We've reached out to SF Public Works to learn more about who is responsible for the sign, and will update accordingly.

Update, 6:46pm: SF Public Works spokesperson Rachel Gordon says the sign has been reprogrammed. However, it's still unclear who was in charge of it, who changed the lettering, or how they were able to do so. We'll update if we learn more.
