November Crime And Mayhem Report: Upper Haight EditionPhoto: Jorge Dalmau/Flickr

It's time for the Upper Haight's November crime and mayhem roundup, so set your teeth and settle in. (See last month's here.)

Starting with the monthly Park Station meeting recap, there's some good news: Park Station reports that vehicle thefts were down 10 percent from the same time last year. Likewise, car thefts, robberies and burglaries are all down in Park Station's territory.

News around the neighborhood

As for the Upper Haight specifically, we've had some weird ones this month. In the early hours of Tuesday, November 8th, two small fires were set in the Haight. One was in the doorway of Ambiance, after an arsonist likely climbed the nearby scaffolding to torch their awning. Fortunately, it only caused minimal damage to the building, as the awning is flame retardant.

The second was reportedly set at the Haight and Cole intersection, according to a tipster. SFPD didn't receive any calls about that fire, and there was no major damage. It, too, was set near scaffolding.

But that may not have been all. Commenter HaightIsGreat said that there was "clear evidence" of another fire on the stoop of a house near Cole and Page. After the Ambiance story ran, a tipster wrote in to say that they found a "small debris fire" near Clayton and Waller.

The fire at Ambiance is still under investigation.

In other mayhem news, a Mission-bound 33 Muni bus pinned a car against the sidewalk at Haight and Ashbury Streets, messing with traffic for the morning of November 10th.

On Saturday, November 12th, Park Station officers noticed a motorcycle stopped in a lane of traffic. When they approached the motorcycle, the driver tried to flee, but the bike stalled. When officers searched the bike and driver, they found meth, mushrooms, a pipe, a small scale, multiple baggies and an open bottle of Hennessy, AND, the bike turned out to have been stolen. The subject, whose license was suspended, was booked at county jail.

Also earlier this monthJamaica Suk, a Berlin-based DJ had his backpack stolen while trying on a jacket at Buffalo Exchange. The bag contained a MacBook Pro, three external hard drives, and two USB drives that amounted to four years' worth of work, Suk said in a post on Facebook. The incident is under investigation, and Buffalo Exchange was lucky enough to capture it on their security footage.

Checking in on Haight & Stanyan

The corner of Haight and Stanyan, which had seen several incidents of violent crime in 2016 and 2015 (see the timeline here), was notably quieter this month.

The one reported incident was a robbery that happened at 2:30am November 6th. Two suspects grabbed a victim's cell phone. When the victim wouldn't let go, one of the suspects punched her in the face. She let go of her phone, and the suspects fled. They were not apprehended.

The next monthly Park Station briefing will be held at 6pm Tuesday, December 13th, at the station house's community room at 1899 Waller St.
