It's the last week of the month, which means it's time for another look at crime reported around District 3, which is comprised of Chinatown, North Beach, Union Square, Fisherman’s Wharf, Polk Gulch, the Financial District and Nob, Telegraph and Russian Hills.
Here's an overview of several notable incidents since our last roundup culled from daily SFPD reports.
Arrest Made After FiDi Coffee Shop Robbery
On April 19 at 3:20pm on the 100 block of New Montgomery Street, a 26-year-old man was robbed at a coffee shop. The victim was using his laptop when one of three suspects — all in their late teens — grabbed his computer and tried to flee the scene.
The victim confronted the robbers, but they struck him and fled on foot. The café patron then pursued the suspects and flagged a nearby officer who gave chase and was able to take one of the suspects into custody. The laptop was recovered, but the other two suspects got away on foot.
Woman Injured After Midday Attack In Chinatown
A 66-year-old woman was walking near the corner of Stockton Street and Pacific Avenue in Chinatown on April 17 just after 11am when an unknown suspect approached her from behind and struck her before fleeing on foot.
The victim, who suffered minor injuries, was transported to a hospital in non-life threatening condition.
Union Square Shopper Robbed Outside Store After Purchase
A woman, 20, was robbed of two handbags after shopping on the 200 block of Geary Street in Union Square on April 16 at 1:30pm.
The victim had just purchased a new purse and placed her old purse into her shopping bag and walked out of the store when a suspect in his 20s approached from behind and grabbed the bag. A brief struggle ensued, but the suspect was able to steal the bags and leave the scene.
Man Attacked Inside Nob Hill Hospital
On April 16, just after 6pm on the 1100 block of Bush Street, a man, 38, was attacked by another man, 49, inside a local hospital. The suspect attacked the victim causing injury and then fled the scene. The victim was treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Victim Struck With Bottle Injured During Fight In North Beach
On the 600 block of Green Street on April 17 at 1:30am, an assault occurred after two men got into a fight. During the altercation, a 27-year-old male suspect grabbed a bottle and hit the victim, a 33-year-old man, who suffered injuries and was taken to a hospital. Police nearby took the suspect into custody.
Robber Steals Backpack In Lunchtime FiDi Street Robbery
In the FiDi on the 100 block of California Street on April 15 at 12:25pm, an unknown suspect came up behind a man, 23, and pushed him to the ground. The suspect then absconded with the victim's backpack, which contained a phone and laptop.
ATM Argument Leads To Union Square Stabbing
On April 15, a 49-year-old woman was stabbed at 8:30am in Union Square near the corner of Ellis and Powell Streets. The suspect, a man, 65, whom the victim knew, got into an argument with the victim about money at an ATM before the attack. Police officers nearby arrived and placed the suspect under arrest. The victim was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Alleged Hot Prowl Burglar Arrested In North Beach
An attempted burglary from an occupied home was thwarted on April 13 just before 4:30pm on the 400 block of Bay Street in North Beach.
The victim, a man, 32, was home when he noticed another man, 38, in a room. The victim shouted at the suspect, who then fled down the hallway and tried to gain entry into another apartment. The other tenant was able to hold down the suspect until police arrived and took him into custody.
Couple Assaulted In Late-night Armed Robbery
Just before 1am on April 14 in the FiDi on the 700 block of Jackson Street, a woman, 45, and a man, 52, were robbed at gunpoint by an unknown suspect. The suspect approached the victims, brandished a gun, demanded their property and reportedly physically attacked them.
The suspect obtained a backpack and a wallet from the male victim before fleeing the scene. The female victim suffered from an unknown injury, but it's unclear if she sought medical attention.
