A new Vietnamese spot has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Called HaiSous, the new addition is located at 1800 S Carpenter St. on the Lower West Side.

Owner and executive chef Thai Dang and wife/business partner Danielle Dang have returned to the culinary scene following the closure of Embeya (564 W Randolph St.) two years ago. Chef Dung will be making his way back into the kitchen, while Danielle is overseeing the beverage program.

Diners can expect to see Vietnamese items, like Heo Quay Kho Củ Cả (roasted pork braised with radish), Vịt Kho Gừng (braised duck, ginger, shallots, black pepper), Bánh Bèo Huế (steamed rice cake, dried shrimp, fried shallots, spring onion) and more on the menu for $8-$38. The restaurant also offers a tasting menu for $33 per person, as well as cocktails, wine and beer from its full service bar. (See the full menu here.)

With a five-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp so far, HaiSous seems to be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Yelper Elizabeth W. said: "I have been waiting for this opening since the whisperings of Vietnamese in Pilsen started to circulate."

And Edwina A. added: "This is a new spot opening soon. Huge space, delicious food, and great variety of food that will satisfy the palate. The staff is very helpful. Soothing atmosphere. Plenty of street parking."

Listed at two dollar signs on Yelp, you can expect to spend $11-$30 per person on a visit to HaiSous.

Head on over to check it out: HaiSous is open Monday to Saturday from 5pm to 11pm, and weekends from 10am to 3pm.
