If you've got breakfast and brunch on the mind, a recent opening is need-to-know. Called Bill's Cafe, the newcomer is located at 1700 Newbury Park Dr. in Alum Rock.

This new spot—which has other outposts throughout San Jose, as well as in Pleasanton and Palo Alto—specializes in breakfast and lunch.

If you're coming for breakfast (served all day), the extensive menu features dishes like a "French garden" omelet with goat cheese, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, and basil; "Bill's Special" with scrambled eggs with ground beef, onions, and spinach; and cinnamon roll French toast, served with a side of eggs and bacon or sausage.

Switching over to lunch, look for items like a grilled chicken and gorgonzola melt with lettuce, tomato, and red onions on sourdough; Santa Fe chicken salad with mixed greens, corn, black beans, and tortilla strips served in a lime vinaigrette; and a Tex-Mex burger with jalapeños, jack cheese, avocados, and a house-made salsa.

Rounding things out are an array of coffee drinks and teas, sodas, and fresh-squeezed orange juice. (You can check out the full menu here.)

Bill's Cafe has gotten an enthusiastic response thus far, with a five-star rating out of four reviews on Yelp.

Dennis R., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on December 13th, said: "Salmon Benedict, crab cakes Benedict, waffles were perfect! Staff was very attentive and nice... Wait was a little bit [long], but it was the first week of opening. Awesome like the other Bill's."

Yelper Cherryl D. added: “They finally opened today and I'm super happy. Love Bill's Cafe, and now we have a place to have good breakfast that's close by. Love that everything here is new and clean.”

And Andrea S. said: "Finally, Bill's Cafe comes to #eastsanjose! Carlos was a great server—my son said he reminded him of Lin-Manuel Miranda. Generous servings, great space. Kids loved crispy bacon."
