A new Korean spot, offering chicken wings and more, has opened up shop in the neighborhood. The fresh arrival to North San Jose, called Vons Chicken, is located at 3730 N 1st St.
This South Korea-based chain, which also has outposts in Sunnyvale and Milpitas (as well as a now-closed location in San Carlos), specializes in Korean-style roasted and fried chicken with a variety of sauces. Diners can order their chicken by the half or full chicken, or in a wing and drumstick combo.
For the roasted chicken, flavor options include garlic, wine and green onion, or soy sauce and black vinegar. Fried chicken varieties include honey butter, cheddar, or spicy "yang yum."
Each chicken combo comes with white rice or fries, and can be paired with a variety of other sides, both Korean (spicy rice cakes, kimchi fried rice, mandoo potstickers) and American (onion rings, sweet potato fries).
Exclusive to the San Jose location are an additional offering: rice bowls, with a choice of beef, chicken, spicy pork or tofu with bean sprouts, kimchi, seaweed, and "special sauce."
With a 3.5-star rating out of 12 reviews on Yelp so far, the new arrival has made a promising start.
Esther C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on December 5th, said: "This Vons is the same owner as the old location in San Carlos, and it has only gotten yummier because they also added cup bop (rice bowls)!"
