Craving salad? You're in luck: a new business has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Located at 3090 Olsen Dr. in Santana Row, the new addition is called Mendocino Farms.
This new spot—which has another Bay Area outpost in Campbell, as well as locations in San Mateo and San Francisco in the works—specializes in sandwiches, salads and more.
The restaurant "started as—and still is—a family business," according to its website, and was founded by husband and wife team Mario Del Pero and Ellen Chen.
On the menu, expect to see offerings such as the "Not-So-Fried Mary's Chicken" with shaved roasted chicken, mustard pickle slaw and pickled red onions on toasted ciabatta; a Peruvian steak sandwich with Oaxacan cheese; and a bulgogi-style marinated steak sandwich with kimchi-kale slaw, jalapeños and chili aioli on toasted ciabatta.
There's a selection of vegan options on offer, too, like a barbecue tempeh sandwich and a superfood hemp burger. (You can check out the full menu here.)
Mendocino Farms has gotten off to a solid start thus far, with a four-star rating out of 15 reviews on Yelp.
Henry M., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on February 17th, said: "Saw this place from the street so I thought to myself, self you should stop in. They have been open now for just three days. As we walked in, the first thing I noticed was this huge tree in the middle of the restaurant. (Very cool)."
Yelper Lynn V. added: “Solid place for sandwiches salads and such. It'll run you back about $12-$15 per item but the quality and taste is there! There was a long line out the door when we went, but it moved quick. I ordered the Not-So-Fried Mary's chicken sandwich and loved it.”
And Maya P. said: "The most amazing service and food in San Jose. The customer service truly blew my mind from start to finish and I couldn't believe the taste of the amazing sandwiches they offer. I would totally recommend the Chicken MBT. Just wow!!!"
