[Update: 5:57pm] According to ABC7, police arrested San Francisco resident Mark Dennis, 33, the alleged driver in today's incident. 

[Update: 1:08pm] ABC7 is reporting that one of the victims succumbed to their injuries and that the suspect "swung an ax at a group of people" before intentionally hitting them with his vehicle.


Police are seeking a driver who struck five people with his vehicle in the Dogpatch neighborhood this morning before fleeing the scene. According to police, four of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred around 10:24am at the intersection of Illinois and 24th streets when a male suspect got into a physical altercation with five people. 

After the dispute escalated, the suspect got into his vehicle and allegedly drove into the victims, who were standing on a sidewalk.

Traffic in the area is restricted while police investigate the collision and search for the suspect. The SFPD hasn't released an official description of the vehicle used in the hit-and-run, but some users on social media have described it as a white GMC van.
