Castro eyewear shop closes after a decade4126 18th St. | Photo: Steven Bracco/Hoodline

A Castro eyewear store that served the neighborhood for a decade has closed. According to tipster Gino V., Specs In The City & Cheaters Too (4126 18th St. between Castro and Collingwood streets) shuttered in recent weeks.

The store was owned by optician Jon Paul Franke, who took over the space from De La Sole before it moved it to 549 Castro St., now Philz Coffee.

Although fixtures remain inside the space, all merchandise has been removed. The company's email and phone number have been disconnected, and its website is no longer available.

Remaining eyewear options for Castro residents include For Your Eyes Only Optometry (552 Castro St.), Eye Gotcha Optometric (586 Castro St.), Sunglass Hut (511 Castro St.), and Urban Eyes Optometry (300 Sanchez St).

Thanks to tipster Gino V.!
