Time for another look at notable crimes reported in the Castro since our last roundup. Unless otherwise noted, all details are from SFPD reports.

Robbery at gunpoint

On July 5 at 12:45 a.m., Doran Rivera, also known as drag queen Carnie Asada,  was walking near Noe and 15th streets when he was robbed by two suspects in their late twenties.

"About half a block down from Rosenberg's convenience store two men jumped out from behind the bushes," Rivera told Hoodline. "One to the front of me and one to my left. The man in front had a silver revolver."

The suspects demanded Rivera's bag, wallet, and keys. After he complied, the suspects fled on foot toward Beaver before getting into a vehicle and fleeing. No arrests have been made in the case.

Argument leads to pepper spray assault

On June 30 at 2:44 p.m., a 46-year-old man got into an argument with a man in his early thirties near 16th and Prosper streets. After the incident escalated, the younger man sprayed the older man with pepper spray and fled on foot. The victim was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Suspicious death in Castro parking lot

Early on June 29, officers responded to the parking lot at 18th and Castro streets where they discovered an unresponsive man who was later pronounced dead.

The case is being investigated as a suspicious death; the Bay Area Reporter reported that the victim was been identified as 48-year-old Corey Ahrens. Police are asking anyone with information to submit tips anonymously.

After many requests from merchants and residents concerned about crime and quality-of-life issues, SFMTA is installing security gates at the parking lot where Ahrens' body was found. 

Suspect attacks victim with metal pipe

On June 25 just before 1:00 a.m., a 56-year-old man was arguing with another person near Market and Dolores streets when an unknown suspect approached him from behind and struck him with a metal pipe.

The suspect fled in an unknown direction and the victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Three suspects attack, rob victim

On June 24 at 5:10 a.m., a 27-year-old man was walking on 18th Street near Eureka when three male suspects in their twenties approached him from behind and begin hitting him. The suspects stole the victim's backpack, phone, and keys before fleeing. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Arson attempt leads to arrest

On June 22 at 5:54 a.m., a 38-year-old man lit a newspaper on fire near 17th and Noe streets. A person who reported the incident was able to put out the fire and the suspect fled, but was taken into custody.

Man snatches woman's cell phone on Muni

On June 21 at 3:55 p.m., a male suspect approximately 18 to 25 years old approached a 28-year-old woman on Muni near Church and Duboce before grabbing her phone and fleeing in an unknown direction.

Four suspects assault, rob man

On June 20th between 1:00 and 1:30 a.m., a 25-year-old man was outside a business near 18th and Noe streets when four men in their twenties approached him.

One member of the group pushed the man to the ground and assaulted him before stealing his wallet, money, and phone. The suspects fled and the victim was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
