Time for another look at notable crimes reported in the Tenderloin district in the two weeks since our last roundup. Unless otherwise noted, all details are from SFPD reports.

Man stabbed after home robbery

Around 2:55 a.m. on August 24th, a 45-year-old man was robbed in his room on the 200 block of Mason Street (near Ellis) by two women of unknown age. The man followed the women and confronted them to get his money back; one of them then took out a knife and stabbed him. Both women fled, and the man was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Woman pushed to ground and robbed

Around 8:00 p.m. on August 21st, a 32-year-old woman was approached by an unknown suspect near the intersection of 8th and Mission streets. The suspect asked the woman for money, knocked her to the ground, and stole her phone, backpack and cash. No arrest has been made.

Pickpocket punches victim

A 20-year-old man punched a 37-year-old man near the intersection of 5th and Bryant streets around 1:00 a.m. on August 20th, causing the victim to fall to the ground. The suspect then reached into the older man’s pocket, stole his cellphone, and fled on foot.

Woman steals cellphone in two-on-one attack

Around 9:10 p.m. on August 19th, a woman and a man, both said to be around 40 years old, approached a 20-year-old woman near the intersection of 6th and Market streets and attempted to steal her phone. After a tussle, the female suspect succeeded in grabbing the phone; both suspects then fled the scene, and remain at large.

Hit-and-run victim suffers life-threatening injuries

A 50-year-old man was standing in the street on the 300 block of Jones Street (near Eddy) around 3:13 a.m. on August 18th when an unknown suspect hit him with his car. The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and no arrest has been made.

Woman's property returned after robbery arrest

Around 4:10 p.m. on August 17th, a 24-year-old woman was walking near the intersection of 8th and Market streets when a 29-year-old man stole her backpack, including her laptop, wallet, and cash, then fled the scene. Officers saw the incident, chased the suspect, arrested him, and returned the victim’s property to her.

Shoplifter pulls knife on security guard

A man said to be in his early forties entered a store on the 900 block of Market Street (at Powell) around 1:15 p.m. on August 17th and started putting items into a backpack. The store’s security guard, a 45-year-old man, confronted the suspect and began to retrieve the items. The suspect then pulled a knife on the guard and fled on foot eastbound on Market Street. He has not been identified.

Man tripped in pursuit of robber

Just before noon on August 13th, a 43-year-old man was standing on the 900 block of Market Street (near Powell) when a man said to be in his early twenties grabbed a camera that was attached to a strap around the victim’s neck. 

The victim attempted to chase the suspect, but was tripped by another man said to be in his early twenties. The two suspects fled in a vehicle and have not been identified.

Man arrested after bathroom arson attempt

Around 4:30 a.m. on August 13th, a 34-year-old man left a building on the 400 block of Turk Street (near Hyde). Shortly thereafter, the building’s fire alarm sounded, and burning paper was found in the bathroom. 

SFFD responded and extinguished the fire. The suspect was arrested and no injuries were reported.

Woman defends purse, loses phone in robbery

A 22-year-old woman was near the intersection of Polk and Bush streets around 1:50 a.m. on August 12th when an unknown suspect approached and tried to steal her purse. The suspect ultimately only stole the victim’s phone before fleeing on foot. No arrest has been made.

Teen robbed in front of witnesses

Around 6:45 p.m. on August 11th near the intersection of 5th and Mission streets, a man said to be in his late teens or early twenties approached a 16-year-old boy who hit him in the face, causing the younger man to fall to the ground. 

The suspect stole the victim’s backpack and cash. There were three other unknown people present during the robbery, and all four suspects remain unidentified.
