A 60-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a vehicle in the crosswalk at Baker and Oak streets in the Panhandle, shortly after 9 p.m. last night. 

The pedestrian was transported to a hospital.

The female driver fled the scene eastbound on Oak Street, police said Thursday. No description of the vehicle was available, and no arrest has been made. 

Baker and Oak streets has been identified as a high-injury corridor under the city's Vision Zero plan, which aims to eliminate traffic fatalities by 2024. 

[Update, 6:17 p.m.] The SFPD Traffic Collision Investigation Unit determined that a black or dark blue Toyota Prius ran a red traffic light while traveling eastbound on Oak Street at Baker Street. The Prius struck the pedestrian who was in the crosswalk while crossing Oak Street from the southeast to northeast corner, police said.

The driver of the Prius stopped at the scene and briefly exited the vehicle, before fleeing in the vehicle eastbound on Oak Street to southbound Broderick Street. SFPD suspects that the Prius likely sustained front end damage as a result of the collision.

Investigators are asking the driver of the Toyota Prius to contact them by calling (415) 575-4444. Residents and business owners in the area should also check surveillance cameras for any images related to the incident.
