Here are some notable incidents that have taken place in SFPD's Central District since our last biweekly recap. The district encompasses Chinatown, Financial District, Embarcadero, Russian, Telegraph and Nob Hills, North Beach and Union Square. 

Unless otherwise noted, all reports are drawn from the department's daily crime recaps.

Woman robbed at gunpoint by five men

On October 3 at 11:45 p.m., near the intersection of Jones and Greenwich streets in Russian Hill, a 22-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint by five men, all aged 18-20.

According to police, the victim was approached by the men, who threatened her with a gun before taking her purse, containing a passport and credit cards. They then fled on foot. The woman was uninjured.

Woman finds hot prowler in her hallway

An attempted hot prowl burglary occurred on October 2, on the 900 block of Post Street in Lower Nob Hill.

A 31-year-old woman was at home around 9:22 p.m. when she heard a noise, and walked into the hallway of her residence. The suspect, a man in his mid 20s, was standing in the hall when she entered. She screamed and called 911, causing the suspect to flee out the front door. 

Man hospitalized after being attacked and robbed

A 34-year-old man was hospitalized after being robbed and assaulted by two men in their early 20s. 

The incident occurred on October 2 at 10:30 a.m., near the corner of Washington Street and Grant Avenue in Chinatown. According to police, the victim was standing on the corner when the two suspects approached him and threw him to the ground. They then took his backpack and cash before fleeing the scene on foot in an unknown direction. 

The victim was taken to a hospital in non-life-threatening condition. 

Man asks for a smoke, gets assaulted

Also in Chinatown on October 2, at Broadway and Powell streets, a 50-year-old man was attacked in what appears to be an unprovoked incident. 

At 3:15 a.m., the victim approached three men in their 40s and asked them for a cigarette. One of the suspects took a thermos that the victim was holding and hit him over the head with it. The three suspects then fled the scene on foot. 

The victim was injured and was taken to a hospital for treatment in non-life-threatening condition. 

Man robbed at gunpoint by trio

On September 30 at 2 a.m., on the 2800 block of Leavenworth Street in Fisherman's Wharf, a 30-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint by three male suspects in their mid-20s. 

The trio approached the victim and pointed a gun at him, demanding that he hand over his belongings. The suspects snatched his cell phone, wallet and a chain, and then fled the scene. The victim was uninjured.

Woman attacked and robbed downtown at midday

On the 200 block of California Street in the FiDi, a 26-year-old woman was robbed on September 28 at 12:25 p.m. 

A man in his mid-20s approached the victim from behind and struck her, before snatching her mobile phone and fleeing eastbound on California Street. 

The woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the incident, but it's unclear if she was transported for treatment. 

Two women punched by men after midnight

Also on September 28 just before 1 a.m., two women, 28 and 20, were assaulted on the 200 block of Post Street in Lower Nob Hill. 

According to police, the two women were punched several times and knocked to the ground by two male suspects, 20-30-years-old. The suspects fled the scene shortly after. 

The victims were transported to an area hospital in non-life-threatening condition. 

Three suspects snatch woman's purse and flee

At 10:15 p.m. on the 500 block of Market Street in the FiDi, an 18-year-old woman was robbed by three suspects: two women and a man, all in their mid-20s. The trio approached the victim from behind and snatched her purse before fleeing in an unknown direction. 

The victim was not injured in the incident, but her purse, containing a cell phone and cash, was not recovered. 

Suspects jump out of vehicle, attack and rob man

On September 26 at 2:20 a.m., on the 300 block of Post Street in Lower Nob Hill, a 43-year-old man was robbed by two to five unknown male suspects in their early 20s. 

The victim was walking on Post Street when the suspects jumped out of a vehicle, attacked him and took his cell phone and wallet. The unknown suspects then returned to their vehicle and fled the scene. 

The victim suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
