A driver died after a Monday-morning automotive collision in the Upper Haight, according to police.

The driver, a 64-year-old man, lost control of his vehicle while driving on the 800 block of Ashbury Street (at Frederick) at 5:40 a.m. He then backed into two parked cars.

The driver was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His sole passenger, a 61-year-old man, escaped uninjured; no other drivers or pedestrians were harmed in the incident. The two vehicles with which the driver collided sustained minor damage.

While an SFPD spokesperson told Hoodline that no further information about the incident was available, another spokesperson, Officer Robert Rueca, told the Chronicle that the incident may have been caused by a medical emergency on the part of the driver.
