Crime incidents in Fort Lauderdale saw an overall decrease last week, after a previous rise, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 127 for the week of Jan. 21, down from 152 the week before.

The specific offenses that decreased the most were assault and theft. Assault fell to just one incident last week, compared with three the week before. Theft went from two to one.

There were 125 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of 17 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, 122 involved arrests, such as for drug possession; that's down from 140 arrests reported the previous week.

As far as where crime is concentrated in the city, Sailboat Bend, Riverland and downtown had the most reported incidents last week. Sailboat Bend and Riverland were at the top of the list the previous week as well.

Crime in Riverland decreased the most. Crime reports in Central Beach Alliance also fell, after increasing the week before, and incidents in Melrose Manors are down considerably as well.

Regarding when most crimes are committed, it's early in the week: Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays witnessed the most reported crimes last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, while incidents on Sundays and Tuesdays went up. Last week, late afternoon, early afternoon and late morning saw the most crime.
