The number of crime incidents in Alexandria saw an overall decrease last month, after a previous rise, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources.

Incidents fell by 9.6 percent, from 655 in January to 592 in February.

Most types of crimes decreased this month, led by theft and assault. Theft fell from 177 reported incidents in January to 160 in February. Assault incidents went from 74 to 60 for the month, or about an 18 percent decrease.

There were five burglary reports last month, and one shooting incident. Burglary incidents dropped from nine offenses the previous month, while shooting reports decreased by one incidents.

Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, robbery reports went from nine to 12.

Considering the concentration of crime across the city, the largest decline last month occurred in Braddock Road Metro, Alexandria West and Seminary Hill.

Tuesdays, Fridays and Thursdays saw the most reported crimes last month. The largest decrease from the previous month occurred on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, while incidents on Sundays and Tuesdays went up. Comparing times of day, late afternoon, after midnight and early afternoon saw the most crime last month on average each day.
