The number of crime incidents in San Francisco saw an overall increase for the week of March 15 to March 21, marking the second week of increases in a row, according to data from CrimeoMeter, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources.

Incidents rose to 2,264 in the latest seven-day period of available police reports, up from 2,076 the week before.

Assault and vandalism led the increase in crime reports. Assault rose to 200 incidents, from 154 the week before. Vandalism went from 133 to 158. Reports of assault have continued to grow for the last three weeks, while vandalism incidents have been increasing for the last two weeks.

In smaller crime categories, there was also a notable percentage increase in prostitution, from three incidents per week to 25, and in weapons offenses, from 18 to 37 incidents.

There were 27 reported auto burglary incidents, representing an increase from 22 incidents the previous week. There were also 97 incidents of burglary, up from 84 the week before.

Among the few types of offenses that saw a downturn, reports of fraud or financial crimes went from 63 to 54. Drug-related offenses fell from 79 to 74, and rape or sexual assault went down from six to two.

There were 842 reports of miscellaneous other crimes, an increase of 36 from the previous week. These other crimes include a variety of offenses, like trespassing, public disturbance and violation of a court order.

When it comes to the concentration of crime across the city, SoMa, the Mission, and the Tenderloin continued to have the most reported incidents.

Crime in the Mission went up the most; incidents in the neighborhood have been rising for two weeks in a row. Crime reports in SoMa also rose for a second week, and incidents in North Beach are up considerably as well.

Regarding when crime most often occurs, Saturdays, Mondays and Fridays witnessed the most reported crimes. The largest increase from the previous week occurred on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Mondays, while incidents on Fridays, Wednesdays and Thursdays went down.

Comparing times of day, late afternoon, evening, and early afternoon continue to see the most crime incidents.
