A brand-new coffee and sandwich shop has opened its doors. Located at 748 Van Ness Ave. in the Tenderloin, the former home of Philz Coffee, the fresh arrival is called Salty's.
In addition to coffee drinks made with beans from local roasters Ritual, the family-owned shop offers breakfast sandwiches, pastries from Oakland's Starter Bakery and an assortment of signature and customizable sandwiches.
The Glorious Bastard is an avocado turkey club with pickled onions and chipotle gouda, while Salty's take on a muffuletta is stacked with salami, mortadella, ham, smoked Gruyère, provolone cheese and chopped olive salad.
With a five-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp so far, the new café seems to be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
"[T]heir breakfast sandwich on a soft pretzel roll is the best, [and the] sandwiches are truly legit," wrote Porsche C. "Quick tip: make sure you get the chipotle mayo on your sandwich — it's just the right spice and, on a BLT, it's everything!"
Yelper Ana G. added, "The maple-apple-bacon-sriracha toast was fabulous, definitely a must. Great coffee and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere."
Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Salty's is open from 7 a.m.–4 p.m. Monday-Saturday. (It's closed on Sunday.)
