Interested in adopting a pet — or just taking a peek at some lovable pups? There are dozens of endearing dogs up for adoption at animal shelters in and around Boston.

Animal shelters work hard to care for unhoused pets and connect them to loving homes. Hoodline used data from Petfinder to power this roundup of dogs currently available for adoption.

(Details like pet availability, training, vaccinations and other features are based on data provided by Petfinder and may be subject to change; contact the shelter for the latest information.)

Dolores, chihuahua

Dolores is a female chihuahua dog being cared for at Last Hope K9 Rescue.

Dolores is happy to keep company with kids, dogs or cats. She is vaccinated and spayed. She is already house-trained.

Here's what Dolores' friends at Last Hope K9 Rescue think of her:

Dolores is house trained, loving and gets along with others. She loves to go for rides and sits anywhere she can look out the window. She is just learning how to play and can be scared by loud noises. She has not been crated during her time in her foster home and slept in a bed in her human's room at night. She is getting used to walking on the leash and is doing well. Dolores will make a fantastic companion dog!

Chipper, Labrador retriever mix

Chipper is a lovable male Labrador retriever mix being cared for at Last Hope K9 Rescue.

Chipper will get along great with other dogs. Chipper is already neutered, and he has all his shots. He's already house-trained.

Chipper's current caretakers say:

Chipper has had a run of bad luck, but he remains as sweet as pie. He was found after he and his sister were found dumped in a park outside the city limits of Conway, AR. He was still intact and had a very "goopy" eye. After being examined by the vet, we were informed that he had actually been born without an eye! He is a good boy that gets along well with other dogs and kids. He has not been tested with cats, but we feel certain he would do fine with them. Like any young lab, he has a lot of energy, but he is also very cuddly. He is completely house trained.

Samael, boxer and hound mix

Samael is a male boxer and hound mix currently residing at Last Hope K9 Rescue.

Samael will get along great with your other dogs. He is looking for cat-free family. He has mastered his house-training etiquette. He has been vaccinated and neutered.

Here's what Samael's friends at Last Hope K9 Rescue think of him:

Samael is a sweet boy who loves his people, cuddling and romping around in the yard. Samael would love to find someone who can help him build his confidence, and be patient with him as he works on his manners. He loves other dogs, but needs slow introductions to them because he can often times be too eager and forget to respect their space. He will need continued leash training. He is crate trained and house trained, and will settle right in with you and your pack after an adjustment period.
