Food trends come and go. So how can you tell which tastes are trending at this very moment?

We took a data-driven look at the question, using Yelp to uncover which eateries have been most discussed this month.

To find out who made the list, we looked at Miami businesses on Yelp by category and counted how many reviews each received. Rather than compare them based on number of reviews alone, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month, and tracked businesses that consistently increase their volume of reviews to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance.

Proyecto Tulum

Open since October 2017, this bar, art gallery and music venue is trending compared to other businesses categorized as "Bars" on Yelp.

Citywide, bars saw a median 3.1 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, but Proyecto Tulum saw a 90.9 percent increase, maintaining an excellent five-star rating throughout. Moreover, on a month-to-month basis Proyecto Tulum's review count increased by more than 200 percent.

It's not the only trending outlier in the bar category: Sherwoods Bistro & Bar has seen a 6.2 percent increase in reviews.

While businesses categorized as "Italian" on Yelp saw a median 6 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, Battubelin bagged a 64 percent increase in new reviews within that timeframe, maintaining a sound 4.5-star rating.

There's more that's trending on Miami's Italian scene: North Italia has seen a 52.2 percent increase in reviews.

Open since October 2017 at 50 N.W. 24th St., the lounge and cocktail bar has seen a 12.2 percent bump in new reviews over the last month, compared to a median review increase of 3 percent for all businesses tagged "Cocktail Bars" on Yelp. Moreover, on a month-to-month basis No. 3 Social's review count increased by more than 230 percent.

No. 3 Social offers small plates like coconut-citrus ceviche, conch fritters and tostadas. Notable cocktails include Norman's revenge (made with agave nectar, lime, jalapeño and black salt) and the perfect pear (consisting of muddled kiwi, absolut pear, simple syrup, lime and lychee).  Over the past month, this spot has maintained a healthy four-star rating among Yelpers.
