A new traditional American, soul food and Caribbean spot has made its debut in the neighborhood. The newcomer to Edgewater, called Bettie Lou's, is located at 5633 N. Ashland Ave.

Bettie Lou's offers comfort food with a twist. Stop in for fried Soul Rolls, Peach Cobbler French Toast or a veggie-friendly option, like the Beefless Szechuan platter or the meat-free sliders. For purists, there are plenty of soul food classics too, like jerk chicken, stewed greens, chicken wings and mac & cheese.

The new addition is off to a promising start, with a five-star rating out of two reviews on Yelp.

Tonia M., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on June 16, wrote, "The food is good and fresh, service is good and fast, atmosphere is wonderful. I had the salmon croquettes, red beans and rice, string beans and white potatoes. The portions are enough to share, and you still get full."

Head on over to check it out: Bettie Lou's is open from noon–7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, noon–10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and noon–5 p.m. on Sunday. (It's closed on Monday and Tuesday.)
