1685 Haight Street

Things might not look different to the casual passerby, but big changes are in store for 1685 Haight Street, the future site of the Upper Haight's only cannabis dispensary.

This week saw the completion of a final preliminary community meeting, where ownership — the Cole Ashbury Group, with partners  Shawn Richard, Conor Johnston, and John Delaplane — announced they were in talks for a potential collaboration with local clothing brand and cannabis industry veteran Cookies SF.

Johnston said the partnership, which was still very much in the works and taking shape, would leave Cole Ashbury Group the sole proprietor (and Richard its CEO), while leaning on Cookies as an "operational and managerial partner."

They'll know more about the terms of the partnership, if it comes together, in the coming weeks. The name of the shop is still uncertain, but it would likely be an indirect nod to the Cookies brand.

"This could be a good collaboration," Johnston said. "The thing that's really exciting for us is that both [Cookies and Cole Ashbury Group] are San Francisco natives and have been active in the Haight for decades."

Richard, who grew up in the Haight, has decades worth of roots there and family still in the neighborhood, said "we're almost there — I'm excited about the partnership."

What's next? Johnston said they were currently in the midst of the remodel and build-out, after which they would be able to get the sign-off from city planning agencies and clear their city and state cannabis licenses.

The goal is to open as early as October or November, Richard said — or, failing that, by January.
