A new fast-casual spot specializing in fried chicken has debuted in the neighborhood. Located at 35 Kearny St. in FiDi, the newcomer is called Flybird.
Opened by the team behind the Mediterranean pita bar Sababa, Flybird cooks up fried chicken cutlets, which it serves in sandwich form or as part of a hearty salad. Check out Flybird's six signature chicken sandwiches, like its Classic sandwich, topped with slaw and house ranch; the Mexico City, with avocado and chipotle aioli; or the Korean-inspired Seoul Food sandwich, finished with pickled daikon, sesame mayo and pepper sauce. For a veggie-friendly option, fried sweet potato can be substituted for the chicken in all sandwiches.
The five salad offerings, each of which can be topped with slices of fried chicken cutlet, have a similar international flair. Choose from salads made with feta and Greek dressing, paneer and curry vinaigrette, black beans and lime, and more. (See the full menu here.)
The new addition has garnered rave reviews thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of 14 reviews on Yelp.
Melody A., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Sept. 13, wrote, "The Classic chicken sando is bomb, and I just want to bathe in the sauce that comes with the fries."
Yelper Jennifer H. added, "If you're craving a chicken sando in the FiDi area, this is a pretty solid option."
Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Flybird is open from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. on weekdays. (It's closed on weekends.)
